Why should I do a video genealogy? It gives an in depth look at the person(s) life and their stories of their life. Life History videos offer a up close interview along with family photos. Many clients have family video that may be added also. As years pass, Life History Video allows future generations to view the interview and keep those cherished stories and personal memories alive. It allows you to enjoy the color and personality of the person, or persons as they really are.
Is the video life history and genealogy strictly directed at the elderly population? Not at all, all ages may enjoy this service.
How can I assemble the video and prints myself? Sure, Life History Video are recorded on High Definition data cards. We will transfer the raw footage to a file suitable for you to create your own documentary. There are simple photo and video editing software available for those who are able to operate the computer.
Why would some one be interested in doing this? To record their life's events and stories for future generations. The interview is a way for them to leave a lasting legacy of their life.
What if the special person is reluctant to do a video life history, or genealogy? Some people are camera shy. You may say this is just for the family to see it, or they would appreciate it so much, it's for family history. What ever is said make it the truth so no feelings are hurt. You may have the luxury of asking only a few questions.
What do I need to do to prepare for the Life History Video? Let the individual, family members and friends know that you would like their imput for the interview questions. Assemble family photos and videos.
How does the interview take place? Our staff will include an interviewer and videographer for the session.
May a family member, friend or a person close to the person being interviewed ask the questions? Yes! In fact we feel that have a person close to the individual will make the person feel more comfortable. This may allow the individual open to speak more open about their life.
Can we share the Life History Video on-line with family and friends? Sure! Ask us for a QuickTime or .mov file. Then send the interview over the internet. Most interviews are 2 hours long, so the file will be large.
Do we have to prepare questions for the interview? We have 100’s of questions prepared for your interview session. Of course, any added questions from friends and family are welcome. Your Life History Video consultant will offer all questions, in advance of the interview session.
We have a lot of family film and video, can we include these? Yes, there is a charge for formatting and editing your footage for insertion into the video.
Can we use their favorite music in the video? Yes, but not commercially played music, such as played on the radio and TV. The use of this type of music must be licensed and adds a high cost to your video. Life History Videos has a library of 100’s of royalty free music that we will use to enhance the interview.
How is our cost determined? All Life History Videos include three cameras, lighting, extensive editing, an interviewer and videographer. Each interview cost is determined on the location, length of the interview and the editing needs per project. All rates are based on your needs and copy amounts.
Will you travel outside the St.Louis area? Yes, all travel expenses will be included in your final rate, at our cost.
Can the interview be on audio only? Yes
Can more than one person be interviewed? Yes! The will interview one or more people during the interview session. If multiple sessions are required…there may be an additional cost.
What languages are available? Typically our interviews are in English. Other languages are available upon request.
Is the final DVD chaptered? We will chapter all DVDs by questions and/or subjects. Data files (for internet use) are not chaptered.
